PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Everyone is a natural storyteller. We tell stories to our friends, family, and neighbors every day. We tell stories at school and work. We sometimes tell stories to strangers at the airport or on stage to hundreds of people. Stories help us understand ourselves better while also connecting us with others. History has taught us that we can even change the world with one important story. However, even though we tell stories all the time, everyone can improve. In this fun, interactive workshop, discover and enhance your hidden storytelling talents. There is even a chance you may be able to tell a story on national television in the spring. If interested, you will definitely be invited to join the studio audience for a taping of Stories from the Stage at GBH Studio in Boston.

During this one-week course, students will learn:

  • The secret to identifying interesting personal stories

  • The formula for developing a story that will entertain and inspire people

  • The most important skills for telling a story with confidence

  • The exciting ways stories can change your life, and others

INSTRUCTOR - CHERYL HAMILTON - Founder & Director of Stellar Story Company

Like everyone, Cheryl Hamilton has been telling stories casually her whole life. In 2008, she stepped on stage for the first time with her one-woman show about her experience working with immigrants in Maine. The experience of telling her story changed her life, and since then, she has been inspiring people of all ages to also fall in love with the power of storytelling. Cheryl is currently the founder and director of Stellar Story Company, where she and her colleagues help people and institutions deliver extraordinary stories and unforgettable events that lead to meaningful change. At Stellar, she also directs curation and coaching for the national media program Stories from the Stage. Hamilton also created Suitcase Stories, a popular series honoring stories of refugee and immigrant life. Her stories have appeared on national podcasts, and she routinely performs on stages throughout the country.
