Building Self-Esteem Through Drama

In addition to building social and communication skills overall, involvement in drama courses and performance has been shown to improve students’ self-esteem as well as their confidence in their academic abilities.

BOLLYWOOD DANCE

What is Bollywood Fitness & Dance?

Fitness turned into “party”. Most of us procrastinate going to the gym and are weary of trying out different exercises due to various reasons- lack of enthusiasm or knowledge or motivation.

Bollywood Dance is the easiest and fun way of taking care of your health and fitness. Fitness is very important in this day and age where there are so many pressures and goals one wants to achieve in life.

This form of exercise touches every muscle in your body and helps you get in shape and maintain it. These classes are for kids, men and women who want to achieve the following goals:

  • Learn how to dance

  • De-Stress

  • Have fun

  • Network

  • Work it out, explore another culture

  • Lose some weight

  • Get that young/toned figure back :-)

It’s everything you want in one style of dance!

Did You Know?

  • Drama activities improve reading comprehension, and both verbal and non-verbal communication skills

  • Students who are highly involved in drama demonstrate an elevated self-concept over those who are not involved .

  • Playwriting original works and dramatic presentation of existing works can help to build the self-esteem and communication skills of students.

  • The act of performing can help students and youth recognize their potential for success and improve their confidence

  • Drama improves academic performance - Numerous studies have demonstrated a correlation between drama involvement and academic achievement. In addition to having higher standardized test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts, student who participate in drama often experience improved reading comprehension, maintain better attendance records, and stay generally more engaged in school than their non-arts counterparts. Schools with arts-integrated programs, even in low-income areas, report high academic achievement.

KRITHI NATHAN

Krithi is a passionate dancer, choreographer, and teacher who loves spreading the joy of dancing to everyone, whether its the audience or her students! Currently a student at Northeastern and a part-time ESL tutor, she finds dancing sometimes difficult to keep up with during the semester.

Krithi has been trained in Bharatnatyam for the past 15 years and enjoys performing in her guru Jothi Raghavan's senior productions annually. She is proud to have a classical background and believes that it truly helps her exceed in other forms.

Currently, she performs with Boston Bollywood, a Boston based dance company, which popularly produces 2 shows a year. She is part of their competitive BBX team, which placed 1st place at South Asian Showdown in 2017 and 3rd place in 2018! This season, she is excited to co-choreograph a Garba piece as well as dance in other pieces. Whether it be Bhangra, folk, contemporary, or Semi-classical, you'll definitely spot Krithi in the piece! :)

She is super happy to be part ACA family and to bring a fun experience to her students! You can expect students to:

  1. Gain a better understanding of counts and beats

  2. Learn choreography to hit songs

  3. Have fun while enjoying Indian culture
