Welcome to the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, I'm truly excited about this collaborative venture with Academy of Creative Arts

Me and my friends Hetal & Java Joshi have worked diligently to design custom music programs for you and your kids. Our vision is to make learning of all styles of Indian music easy, accessible, exciting and fun. 

Our philosophy is simple. To impart high quality learning in music through innovative methods while having a great deal of fun.

VOICE GYM for FOR EXPERIENCED SINGERS:

CLASS TIME / FEES - Wednesday 6.30 pm | Saturday 11 am - 45 minute class - 2 classes every week

Building and maintaining a budding or experienced singer's voice is akin to maintaining the wellness of their body. HINDUSTANI VOCAL 

Class Time / Fees:

  • Sat 9-10am - HV

  • Fees - $299/ 12 weeks

DESCRIPTION:

Ideal for students looking to take their first steps into the world of Hindustani Vocal Music.

The course aims at providing a strong foundation where learning is a process of constant discovery. The student acquires the ability to use basic elements of music (melody and rhythm) to improvise musical phrases.

The course will lay the foundation for acquiring clarity of voice and teach how to focus on the stability of the note and match pitch perfectly with the Tanpura.

CARNATIC VOCAL

DESCRIPTION:

Carnatic Vocal music is the classical music of Southern India.

Pramogram contains a highly structured curriculum, a clear path for progression, and certifications for completion.

Level Certificates are given to students at each of seven levels: Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha and Ni. Each level requires the student to complete the courses listed under it and pass the level exam.

GROW WITH MUSIC

DESCRIPTION:

Conceived and developed to build foundation and appreciation in music for children who are not keen to do classical music

It is an age relevant and progressive curriculum - where basic musical elements will be explored and understood through songs - which are borrowed from various genres and languages.

HINDI MOVIE SONGS

Class Times/Fees:

  • Sat 10-11 am (Starts July 23rd)

DESCRIPTION:

Learn for talent competition, special event or just for fun!

Whether you are new to singing or an experienced vocalist, we make it fun and easy for anyone to learn their favorite song. The course will teach you step-by-step, covering the lyrics, song situation, music composition and finer nuances such as the inflections and ornamentations

We will be starting with a program to learn basics of singing and learn 2 popular Hindi Songs. This will be 12 weeks course (one class per week) and a teacher will be conducting these sessions and the sessions will be augmented with access to course materials online. Click here to learn more

VALENTINO ALMEIDA - Grow with Music & Hindi Movie Songs

Valentino a scientist by profession has performed at several prestigious events and for TV shows; such as singing for the TV Serial Nukkad. He participated and won Lata Mangeshkar's Mere Aawaz Suno singing competition in Mumbai India. He has performed at the World Music and Cultural Diversity Concert held in Kansas, where he performed music from India. Valentino is also winner of domestic competitions such as New England Hindi Manch Se Re Ga Ma Pa 2012 and Boston Sargam 2012. Learn More about Valentino

PARAG JOSHI - Grow with Music & Hindi Movie Songs

Parag Joshi lives in Natick, Mass., and works for software company MathWorks. He is part of a musical outfit called Aaroh, and performs with other groups in the area from time to time. He has participated and won prizes for his singing in various competitions — New England Marathi Mandal Saregama 2011 and Boston Sargam 2011 being the most recent. Learn More about Parag

MALINI VARADARAJAN - Grow with Music & Carnatic Vocal

Scientist by profession working for a multinational pharmaceutical company performing cancer research. Extremely passionate about music and trained in carnatic vocals for thirteen years under the guidance of Smt Akila from Chennai. Performed in several local community, school and college musical concerts. Currently involved in the Boston local community performing theater as well as music.

UJJWAL PARIKH - Hindustani Vocal

Ujjwal is a melodious vocalist of impressive abilities who started training in India at an young age. Later, after moving to  the United States he continued training under the guidance of the eminent vocalist Smt. Kumkum Sanyal. For past 13 years he has been mastering the intricacies of Khayal singing in the "Kirana" tradition of music which significantly enhanced his vocal abilities and imbibed in him the intricate details of "sur" and "laya.".Learn More about Ujjwal

MAHIMA CIELAPPA - Grow with Music, Hindi Movie Songs & Hindustani Vocal

Mahima Cielappa was born into a musical family and learned to love the arts through her father's guidance and mother's encouragement. She was initiated into Carnatic Vocal music at the age of 5 under the tutelage of Smt. Shyamala Vishwanathan of Northborough, MA and currently learns from Smt. Bhavadhaarini Anantaraman of Chennai, India. She soon began her Hindustani Vocal training under the guidance of Smt. Kumkum Sanyal ji, and later learned from Late Pt. K. Jangayya Sir of Hyderabad, India, and is now learning from Pt. Dattatreya Velankar. At the age of 10, she released a CD of her own Sai bhajan compositions and was forty ante to be able to use the proceeds for community service. She has participated in several competitions in classical, semi-classical and light categories and has given performances all over the New England area. She also enjoys light music and ghazals. Currently a sophomore at UConn, she is studying Physiology/Neurobiology & Business Administration. Mahima enjoys learning and teaching Bharatanatyam and loves to read, cook and hold movie marathons with her friends in her free time! She hopes to learn much from her students and hopes that everyone will come together to share the joy of music. Recently Mahima got selected for the most prestigious SaReGaMa India worldwide singing competition.

PRAHLAD CIELAPPAGIRI

Prahlad Cielappa hails from a musical family and was guided into Hindustani Vocal music by his grand father, Pt. Narsayya Haridas. He also learned Hindustani vocal from Pt. Bheema Shankaram, Late Pt. K. Jangayya and Smt. Kumkum Sanyal. Throughout his years in both classical, light and film music, he has won several state and university accolades, has recorded albums, and has been awarded first prizes by notable figures such as K. Vishwanath, S.P. Balasubramaniam, S. Janaki, and many more. He was an A-grade, All-India Radio artist in the light music division and has performed on countless platforms. His love for devotional music and bhajans have also led him to compose several songs. He believes that his never-ending passion for music and mutual enthusiasm for the arts will bring more opportunities to share, learn and grow with his students.
